HI-RES LIVE

Posted by Steve DeCusatis @ 10:11 am

Many thanks to Ryan Starr for inviting me to be part of the design panel for the latest Hi-Res live episode. Also, thank you to everyone who came out and watched the show live. Props to Kitchen Table Gallery for hosting the event as part of Philly Pod Festival 2017! It was a ton of fun; design giveaways, special guests, games, trivia, and more. AARON DRAPLIN

Posted by Steve DeCusatis @ 12:50 pm

Many, many thanks to everyone who came out to Aaron Draplin’s events this past weekend at PhilaU! It was a blast to work with Aaron on planning the day and to meet all of you who attended. We’re putting the ticket profits to good use by donating them to ACCT Philly and Philadelphia Community Arts Network. Below are some photos (most by Sam Fritch Photography) from the workshop and lecture with Aaron at the helm.

Aaron also got on the mic with Hi-Res Podcast. LISTEN HERE!

Thanks again to all—especially to Aaron for his energy and expertise over the 12-hour day, attendees from near and far, and all who helped set up and lend a hand. Anyone leave behind a T•TRAXX pencil case or a Contigo water bottle? If so, I have ’em for you! Cheers!

AARON DRAPLIN. PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING.

Posted by Steve DeCusatis @ 1:00 pm

Saturday, April 1st, Aaron is swinging back through Philadelphia on the spring-leg of his Pretty Much Everything book tour. He asked if I’d host an event and, with the help of PhilaU’s graphic design program, I’m happy to help make it happen. Please see below as we have a logo workshop (very limited seating!) and also an evening lecture (expect about 200 area creatives). Here’s the direct link:

HAPPY STUFFING DAY!

Posted by Steve DeCusatis @ 4:58 pm

In order to prep for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Yellow Pig Day assigned me the challenge to create artwork for Stuffing Day. I thought it would be fun to try to jam-pack (aka stuff) all the tasty ingredients for Thanksgiving stuffing into a repeatable lettering pattern inspired by the work of Mario Zucca and Julia Rothman. Hope you enjoy this… And, of course, your Thanksgiving!

Mario Zucca (colleague, friend and illustrator) and I co-hosted a lecture and workshop at this year’s Tandem Design Conference. Tandem is an annual student-run design conference at PhilaU (http://www.tandem-conference.com/).

Our lecture, Design + Illustration + Collaboration + Integration, covered our journeys since graduating from Tyler School of Art. We discussed being business owners and educators, integrating workflows, and collaborations on many projects. Various work and interdisciplinary collaborations with other designers, illustrators, animators, clients and more were shared with students and professionals alike.

We also led a workshop, titled Exquisite Workshop, which focused on collaborating with fellow attendees to create wildly fun exquisite corpses. We encouraged image-making, collaboration, and media experimentation in this hands-on workshop. The attendees reviewed their work, shared the creations, and then posted via social media for future connections.

Posted by Steve DeCusatis @ 10:09 am

Danielle Currier posted our new portfolio and promo book on her blog, No Plastic Sleeves, and we couldn’t be happier! We enjoyed teaming up with Bella Forte for our custom box build, Ali Doucette for printing and binding on our book, and Sam Fritch Photo for the wonderful photography. FEEDBACK 18

Posted by Steve DeCusatis @ 5:18 pm

Occasionally we get asked to review portfolios, sit in on a university critique or give a presentation to area designers. The images below are from a recent portfolio review with AIGA Philadelphia. We took a look at print and interactive assignments from graduating seniors and helped focus their projects and overall presentations. It’s a great evening of design and networking with fellow colleagues and upcoming talent. Thanks for having us!

YELLOW PIG DAY

Posted by Steve DeCusatis @ 5:01 pm

Our friends at Yellow Pig Day (a website specializing in celebrating weird holidays) asked us to develop some artwork for recent holidays. We’ve been tasked to create something — an illustration, video, photo, animation, etc. — for Polar Bear Day, National Angel Food Cake Day and America Recycles Day. Below are the results:
